Volunteer Compliance Requirements:

Per JHU's Safety of Children in University Programs policy, all volunteers at this event must complete a screening process before volunteering. This includes completing an online training AND completing a non-biometric background check. There is no cost to volunteers for this process and additional information will be provided for you once you have been assigned a volunteer role.

* Any JHU affiliate that has completed a fingerprinting or background check through JHU in the past 5 years may meet compliance requirements. Contact Artelia Davis, adavi243@jh.edu, to verify your clearance status.

Description

You will be assigned to a role based on your time availability. Please note the whole event time will be listed in your confirmation email, but you are not required to be there for the full day.

Transportation is available between the JHU Homewood Campus and 2500 E Northern Parkway (only at the beginning and end of the shift).

Below are some of the possible roles and their approximate times.

  • Registration 7:00am - 10:00am (register teams and volunteers)
  • Robot Inspection 7:30am - 10:30am (inspect robots prior to competition)
  • Judge 8:00am - 4:00pm (speak with teams, confer with other judges to determine award winners)
  • Referee 9:00am - 3:00pm (call rule violations, answer rule questions, score matches)
  • Field Manager 9:00am - 3:00pm (help keep matches running on time, help teams get set up on field)
  • Queuer 9:00am - 12:30pm (make sure teams are at the 'on deck' table ready for their next match)
  • Emcee/Announcer 9:00am - 4:00pm (introduce teams, provide play-by-play of matches)
  • Skills Field 10:00am - 2:00pm (operate Skills Field for individual challenges, enter scores)
  • Field Reset 10:00am - 2:30pm (reset the game pieces to their starting position)
  • Cleanup 1:00pm - 5:00pm (assist with take down of fields, pit areas, tables, chairs, etc. after the tournament)
