    Dear future intern,

First of all, take a deep breath and relax. Everything is going to be all right. Everything that you will do throughout your internship is all things you have encountered before in some way or another. Even if you are unsure of how to approach things, you have a supervisor that will be there to support you. Be patient; sometimes, things are slow. Take that time to prepare for another assignment or review what you have already done.

A lot of what I have done both at Out For Justice and the Office of Councilmember James Torrence is office work. There will be a lot of emails, reading, writing, and research. Therefore, communication is key. Always be upfront with what you are doing and take the initiative by finding ways to be helpful in other areas without someone else telling you to. My supervisor said it best and that the most important thing to do is to show up and do everything with integrity. Always bring your best self to every assignment, do things right, and ask questions. There is no way you can completely mess up if you follow that advice. Bring that energy in everything that you do and enjoy the experience.

    All my best,

    Fatima Mendoza
